About the trip

This short trip will bring participants to two Broadway musicals and one play for a weekend (Thursday-Sunday) of music, theatre, and great company. Young alumni and friends will explore the NYC theatre scene with literature and theatre faculty, and see shows like recent Tony-winner The Outsiders or +Juliet, and a long-running popular hit such as Six—the high-energy dance production about Henry VIII’s wives—or Hadestown, which follows Orpheus’s journey into the underworld to save Eurydice (selections depend on 2026 offerings). Participants will also see one play, such as the current Othello with Denzel Washington or the revival of Glengarry Glen Ross. Lodging at the cool and popular minimalist Pod Hotel in Times Square allows this trip to be affordable and offers access to other NYC attractions young alums may not have experienced, like the High Line, the Museum of Moving Images, or the Tenement Museum. Two lectures and discussions will be offered about New York City’s theatre history and contemporary issues in theatre, including race and casting, the complexities and controversies of adaptation, and the intersection of the arts of music, literature, and drama on stage.
