The highest standards of professional development and achievement have unfolded in the career of Dorothy M. Mullaney. Ever the consummate professional, Dorothy’s passion for neonatal care began during her studies at St. A’s. Following graduation, she started her career working as a staff nurse at Tuft’s New England Medical Center. She then moved up to Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital – now Dartmouth Health – where she has enjoyed a stellar career bridging patient care delivery (often in flight transporting critically ill neonates) and academics. Having advanced to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and earning a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, she recently was appointed as the first Chief Advanced Practice Provider Officer at Dartmouth Health to oversee all advanced practice providers across the Dartmouth system.

Dorothy is recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally as an expert in neonatology and advanced practice. She has published and presented extensively. She holds academic appointments at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and the School of Nursing at Northeastern University.

Dorothy's commitment to care and service has brought her to Kosovo and Doha, Qatar, for international medical missions.

As if Dorothy's professional accomplishments are not enough to merit this award, her distinctive character is the most remarkable as described in these testimonials.

Retired USAF, Brigadier General Rev. Richard M. Erikson, '80, writes, "The seeds of Dorothy’s remarkable and impactful health care career were very evident during her student days. She leads by example. The same respect and esteem she earned from Anselmians has been earned from her professional colleagues. She mobilizes her great talents for the care of others. Her work ethic is unmatchable. Her character is inspiring. She approaches her career with great humility and selflessness. The world and every individual Dorothy has cared for throughout the years are better because of her skill and compassion."

Susan A. Reeves, Executive Vice President & Clinical Professor, in the Department of Community & Family Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center adds to this sentiment. She says, “The work to develop a contemporary organizational support structure for advanced practice providers at Dartmouth Health can be credited in large measure to Dorothy Mullaney, one of our organization's trailblazers. Dorothy is quite comfortable setting out on a journey where there are no roads. She simply creates them as she goes. She is tenacious, optimistic, and collaborative as she goes about the process of making change. Best of all, Dorothy has a wonderful outlook on life and is a joyful person with a wonderful sense of humor.  We are so fortunate to have her on our leadership team at Dartmouth Health.”
